GSI is a specialized consulting firm that provides innovative solutions for groundwater, environmental contamination, and water resource challenges. We have successfully served municipalities, special districts, agribusinesses, and private companies in the Pacific Northwest, California, and internationally.
We deliver projects of variable size ranging in scope from a limited advisory role, to on-site field programs, to comprehensive services on complex, multidisciplinary problems. GSI has complete in-house geographic information systems, graphics, technical writing and editing, and document production capabilities to support all of our projects. Leveraging the combined experience of senior and junior project team members through internal collaboration, GSI is able to consistently deliver high-quality products in a cost-effective manner.
- GSI began in a house in Southeast Portland in 2000. Co-founded by Larry Eaton, Jeff Barry, and Walt Burt who decided to leave behind their careers in a large consulting firm to form a small, client and employee focused firm. What started out as a few employees in a house has grown to five offices and more than 50 employees.
Since GSI has started we have helped more than 300 clients, ranging from small municipalities and businesses to international companies. We offer our clients solutions to manage and develop groundwater supplies, help monitor and protect groundwater quality, develop water rights strategies, and manage environmental contamination issues.
While we continue to grow in size and services we still maintain the client focus and team-oriented culture of a small firm.
- Mission: Our mission is to be a trusted partner to our clients and to serve them in securing, managing, and protecting our shared natural resources.
- Values: We complete all of our projects with the client’s goals as our highest priority. We are dedicated to providing our clients with the best level of service and technical capabilities, and developing cost-effective and timely solutions to their challenges.
Our team is made up of experts in hydrogeology, hydrology, remedial engineering, water resources, environmental science, and talented support staff. However, our employees are much more than their professional careers and job titles. We value and encourage a healthy work-life balance and have active lives outside of work—many of our people are avid bikers, hikers, runners, gardeners, concert-goers, and art enthusiasts. We love our local sports teams and look forward to our company-sponsored football tailgaters. We volunteer and support our local communities. GSI also has four employee led committees that focus on everything from promoting sustainable practices to planning fun company events, such as picnics and celebrations of our people’s successes.
