GSI is a specialized consulting firm that provides innovative solutions to our clients’ groundwater, environmental contamination, and water resource challenges. We work with municipalities, special districts, agribusinesses, and private companies in the Pacific Northwest, California, and internationally.
In 2000, founders Larry Eaton, Jeff Barry, and Walt Burt left their careers at a large consulting firm to form a small client- and employee-focused company. In those days, we were just a few hydrogeologists in a house in Southeast Portland. Today, we are an employee-owned S-corporation with more than 50 staff members across five offices in two states.
Since our founding, we have worked with more than 300 clients in the public and private sectors, from city governments to international companies. We have three main focus areas: Groundwater Services, Environmental Management, and Water Rights and Resource Planning.
We are experts in hydrogeology, hydrology, remedial engineering, water resources, and environmental science. We also offer complete in-house GIS, graphics, technical writing and editing, and document production.
Mission and Values
Our mission is to be a trusted partner to our clients and to serve them in securing, managing, and protecting our shared natural resources.
We complete all of our projects with our clients’ goals as our highest priority. We are dedicated to providing our clients with the best level of service and technical capabilities, and developing cost-effective and timely solutions to their challenges.
Who We Are
While we continue to grow, we still maintain the client focus and team-oriented culture of a small firm. We value and encourage a healthy work-life balance and have active lives outside of work—we are avid bikers, hikers, skiers, runners, ultimate players, gardeners, mountain climbers, concert-goers, and art enthusiasts. Recently, a few members of our team took the day off to climb Mount St. Helens together. And a few weeks later, a GSI team competed in Bend’s Pole Pedal Paddle, a running/skiing/biking/kayaking relay race extravaganza.
We volunteer and support our local communities with charitable contributions and sponsorships. And our three employee-led committees focus on making our office more sustainable, encouraging employee well-being, and ensuring that health and safety protocols are followed.
