The Corbett Water District relies on drinking water from the upper Gordon Creek Watershed, a tributary of the Sandy River. GSI developed a Risk Reduction Plan—similar to a Drinking Water Protection Plan—to help the District ensure its water quality remains high and can meet the needs of current and future generations. The major goals of the project were to protect the District’s drinking water sources by identifying and assessing risks in the source water areas, developing effective strategies to address those risks, and providing a thorough implementation plan to carry out the selected strategies. GSI also developed a contingency plan that details actions to take if a current water source becomes unavailable and considers potential future water sources. Overall, the plan represents a significant step forward in the District’s long-term planning efforts to provide a clean, safe, and reliable public water supply.
As part of this work, GSI facilitated a team of local stakeholders and technical experts, and used the feedback to confirm, expand, and refine the inventory of potential risks and contaminant sources and to develop risk reduction strategies aligned with local conditions and support. GSI also facilitated public meetings to gather feedback on the plan.
